According to the police, the woman who was stabbed to death yesterday was being followed by a man driving a grey Audi before the incident.

The man was allegedly known to her. The incident happened on Tuesday, April 19 at about 07:30 in Woltemade Street while the woman was driving to work.

“The victim tried to drive away from the man when she realised she was being followed, but she bumped her vehicle into a lamp pole. She climbed out of her vehicle to get assistance from the public nearby,” said Capt Eddie Hall, communication officer at Witbank Police.

According to Capt Hall, the suspect got out of his car and ran towards the woman, where he confronted her.

The woman was allegedly stabbed several times in her chest with a knife.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect ran back to his car and fled the scene, leaving the victim in a pool of blood.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she, unfortunately, died later.

Witbank police launched a manhunt for the suspect. Later on during the day Witbank SAPS were informed that the suspect fled to Standerton where he handed himself over to police.

“The 47-year-old suspect will be brought back to eMalahleni, where he will be charged with murder. The suspect is expected to appear before court soon,” Capt Hall concluded. The woman was 35-years old and resided in Klarinet X3.
