[UPDATE] Substation tampering leads to man’s death

He was burned severely and died due to his injuries.

Electrocuted man dies in hospital shortly after he tampered with a substation in Thushanang.

On April 12, the news broke about a man who was electrocuted at a substation in Seeke Street.

Police have confirmed he passed away at Witbank General Hospital as he succumbed to his injuries while in police custody in hospital.

He was due to appear before the court in absentia due to his injuries and police have now opened an inquest to determine the cause of his death.

The deceased was electrocuted in the early hours of Tuesday morning after allegedly tampering with a substation in Thushanang.

He suffered severe burns to his whole body and was taken to hospital for medical treatment where he eventually died.

The family of the deceased has been found and notified of his passing.

Power has since been restored to the affected areas after the incident.
