Rainfall causes trouble in paradise for residents of Extension 17

When heavy rain falls, it has a devastating effect on the residents in Ext 17.

This heavy precipitation is really causing problems for the residents of Vosman Ext 17 because it always ends very badly for them when it rains.

On Monday, April 11 they have returned back to square one after returning into their homes. As water submerges their homes, they are forced to walk on top of stones.

On Monday, April 4 homes in Ext 17 were engulfed by heavy rain. After spending four days in the community hall on Friday, April 8 people went back in their homes because the rain had stopped and they also received food parcels from social services since most of their things were ruined due to heavy rain.

Ward 8 Councillor Xolani Nkosi stated that they will have a meeting with residents before next week Wednesday to do an assessment of human settlement, which will include checking to see if people have actually been approved for RDP housing because people sell the houses. They say they are willing to help people in Ext 17 by providing stands.

After having removed the people, they will barricade the property.

Thembi Shabangu, a resident from Ext 17 explained that they went back to their homes because they didn’t have a choice.

They are now back to square one; water has ravaged their homes. Even though the conditions are not good at their homes, they are not willing to go back to the hall because living conditions are also not good.

Mr Nkosi concluded by saying he will pay them a visit to check the conditions.
