Moth veteran’s memorial day held to pay tribute to fallen members

A special memorial day was hosted to remember fallen soldiers.

 

Moth Cottages hosted their seventh War Veterans Memorial Service. 

 

On Sunday, April 3 members of the Moth Crater Shellhole and guests gathered at the cenotaph in the Moth Cottages to pay tribute to those members of the armed services from eMalahleni who lost their lives during wars.

 

Dirk Volschenk, Old Bill Crater Shellhole, laying a wreath on behalf of the Moth Coalfields District.

Moth Chris Sonnekus the Adjutant of Crater Shellhole started the proceedings by welcoming everyone present and explaining the purposes of the parade and service.

This was followed by a short scripture reading and prayer.

 

Moth Dirk Volschenk then addressed the gathering followed by the lowering of the flags while the Last Post was sounded. 

 

Friend of the Moth Lorraine Hatch and Moth Raymond Cane laying a wreath on behalf of the Cane Family in memory of the late Private TH Cane who died during World War 2 and is buried in the Joubertsrus Cemetery in Lukin Street.

The parade of Moths then kept a minute of silence in memory of the fallen soldiers while the Reveille was sounded and the flags were once again raised.

 

Wollie Badenhorst laying a wreath on behalf of the South African Infantry Veterans Association.

The proceedings concluded with representatives from the Moth laying wreaths at the cenotaph.
