Woman threatened with panga and almost raped in veld near Blackhill

Two women fall as victims of rape in separate incidents.

Being robbed is a traumatic experience that many people go through in eMalahleni.

In many instances, female victims find themselves more vulnerable as rape attempts are made on them.

One victim recalls an incident where she was nearly raped while going to work in the morning. The incident took place at Blackhill on March 25.

Two men came from behind her and demanded her cellphone. One of the suspects had a panga which made her more terrified. After she gave the men her cellphone, they continued walking with her and told her to go into a nearby veld where one of the suspects made attempts to rape her. The other man started to search her work bag while advising his friend to not rape the victim as they planned to only rob her.

“They told me to get dressed and led me to another field, which was near the railway. They then left me alone in the veld and went away. I got my way back home and told my family and close neighbours. They started to search for these men and went to a security officer that had footage of the men walking past the cameras, yet they unfortunately didn’t find the men in the veld. I am still traumatised and haven’t returned to work,” the victim added.

In another incident, another rape case was opened at Old Coronation.

A man was informed by his daughter that she was raped while she was at a party with her friends. The suspect was identified and police are further investigating.
