Glencore Coal continues to uplift pioneering work by donating to organisations around the community.
On Wednesday, February 16, Glencore made donations to non-governmental and non-profit organisations that help the community and its members.
The coal company commit itself to its mission to create a real and long-lasting impact in its host communities.
The organisation consistently recognises community organisations that need support to continue their pioneering work.
“As Glencore, we realise that we cannot be successful without a successful community and part of progressing together with our communities are embracing them and the role they play in the community at large. It is always an honour to support the organisations with a financial boost so they can continue being pillars of the community,” said Khomotjo Mashiane, acting community manager at Glencore Coal.
Glencore Coal donated cheques to the below organisations:
White Rose Hospice received a donation of R200 000 to continue to provide palliative care for terminally ill patients with cancer, HIV/Aids and TB.
The hospice’s work involves basic nursing care, pain management, and family counselling for impoverished patients who cannot afford the care.
A donation of R80 000 was made to Sanca Alcohol and Drug Help Centre.
The donation will assist the centre to help with prevention, early intervention, treatment, reintegration and aftercare of alcohol and drug users in the eMalahleni, Steve Tshwete and Victor Khanye Local Municipalities.
Paul Mthimunye Bursary Fund received a donation of R200 000 to assist in supporting students who are pursuing maths, science, accounting, engineering, law and other fields of study.
The bursary fund is a community-based scheme that funds disadvantaged high school learners and tertiary students.
Paul Mthimunye, the founder of the fund, said that the donation will partially fund the university education of four students who are studying BSc Quantity Surveying, BSc Life & Environmental Sciences, BSc Geology and BSc Biological Sciences.
A donation of R66 000 was made to Amandla Primary School to assist with the development of their early childhood development Grade R class.
All the organisation donations form part of Glencore’s continual efforts in ensuring a positive change in its communities.
Glencore remains committed to supporting and guiding its communities and alternately encouraging growth for the organisations so they can enrich the community members around them.
