School vehicle overloaded, driver runs away

Twelve children climbed out a seven seater vehicle when it was pulled over

Traumatised children stood on the side of the road as they waited for their parents to arrive after the vehicle they were travelling in was stopped by the traffic department.

On Wednesday, March 2 school-going children were picked up with their arranged transport in a white Toyota Avanza, a standard seven-seater vehicle.

This vehicle was spotted by a traffic officer of Emalahleni Traffic Department in Da Vinci Street and stopped for overloading.

The driver refused to stop and reversed the vehicle with the children in it, into a wall. The back window shattered and the driver ran away from the scene.

The children started screaming and crying after the incident happened.

There were 12 children in the vehicle.

Emergency services arrived and the children were placed in the Legacy Emergency Ambulances until their parents arrived.

The driver could not be found and the vehicle was towed away from the scene.
