New street committee strives to keep streets safer

Other structures that were established and are set to help the community are the CPF, Community in Blue, and Youth Desk

A new committee was elected for the Bhodli section in Phola.

The committee was introduced to the community in early February and has been doing an outstanding job of making sure that the section is safer.

The community requested the police to attend and provide guidance in terms of launching street committees in their section.

Sergeant Petros Ntuli, the communications officer at Phola Police Station provided all necessary information and knowledge concerning community policing, particularly the establishment of street committees within residential areas.

The sergeant strongly condemned mob justice that usually occurs in the community and emphasised the fact that communities should always be considerate of the law and never participate in such activities.

Sergeant Ntuli stated that the meeting with the community was very fruitful and the community thanked the efforts of the station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Nape Matlala ensuring that crime is tackled from all angles.

Other structures that were established and are set to help the community are the CPF, Community in Blue, and Youth Desk.

“We are confident that crime will decrease in our community and we believe that the new committee will encourage other sections to build committees too,” said the community members in Bhodli.
