The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga, Busisiwe Paulina Shiba has strongly condemned the incident.

A Community Development Worker (CDW) from Ogies has been suspended after he allegedly attacked a female resident of eMalahelni.

The woman was allegedly stabbed during the assault. The victim opened a case at Ogies Police Station and the suspect was arrested and is in police custody pending his court appearance.

The MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga, Busisiwe Paulina Shiba has strongly condemned the incident.

The department said the case against the official contains serious allegations, which are pointing to gross misconduct by a public official.

The CDW will be suspended pending the outcomes of both the internal investigation as well as the outcome of the case that has been opened with the police.

The department says it will pursue further disciplinary steps as such instances in the public service cannot be tolerated.

“We will continue to fight the scourge of incidents of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) whenever and wherever it raises its ugly head within our communities. No one has any right whatsoever to behave violently against women and children, let alone use sharp objects on helpless women and children to cause grievous bodily harm that may potentially be fatal. We stand firm in our fight against GBVF, said MEC Shiba.

The Head of Department, Mr Sam Ngubane has also reiterated the MEC’s sentiments that the department deeply regrets and extremely rebukes the incident allegedly committed by a person, who by right, is intended to serve the public.

“Shocked as we are, we call for the people of eMalahleni to remain calm with the assurance that the justice system in the country shall ensure that victims of this nature remain protected with justice fairly served. The immediate suspension and all steps that shall follow through disciplinary processes are a clear indication that we shall remain intolerant and non-perseverant on all harmful acts against women and children. We therefore remain resolute and unwavering in our fight against GBVF,” Ngubane concluded.
