Department of Social Work seeking the family of Wynand Blom

Blom was admitted into the male ward at Impungwe Hospital late afternoon on January 31.

Mpumalanga’s Department of Health Social Work is requesting the community to help find the deceased, Wynand Blom’s family.

Blom (birth date 1979/04/05) was admitted into the male ward at Impungwe Hospital late afternoon on January 31.

The records stated that he was brought in by an ambulance at around 15:00 on the day.

He was picked up from the Klipfontein Caltex Garage in a very weak state and brought into the hospital for further medical treatment, but unfortunately passed away on the night of February 1.

The deceased was never formally referred for Social Work intake and assessment, as he was not yet stabilized and was given time before a full-on assessment session.

He unfortunately declined in health late that same evening and was demised.

The nursing staff who attended him on that day reported that he had shared with them that his entire family was late.

He was from Klerksdorp by origin, but did not give any specified address.

He also spoke of having had a girlfriend that he lived with briefly three years ago, in Pullens Hope which is a small residential village situated a few kilometres from Middelburg.

There were no names nor any addresses provided in this regard either.

The deceased did not have any form of identification when he got to the hospital; it was only the date of birth (1979/04/05) that was provided.

This is however not sufficient to assist with further tracing and investigations via the Home Affairs office.

This is therefore another reason why the hospital had to reach out to the WITBANK NEWS to explore publishing the unknown’s details for further and broader reach at this point.

“I have attempted to call Home Affairs to try to retrieve an Identity number from the system, however, I was advised that they cannot help much with just the deceased’s date of birth,” said hospital social worker, Mrs Sibongile Mashaba.

The deceased will be kept with the hospital for three months, as per the Provincial SOP guiding our regards to the management of Blom, unknown and unclaimed patients.

During this time more investigations will be done, in an attempt to trace any relatives to the deceased.

“Should there be any positive leads to the publication, people may contact me on 013 696 5222,” Sibongile Mashaba concluded.
