The two suspected murderers faced court after a senseless murder

The appearance on February 14, of the two emanates from an incident whereby a 42-year-old man was robbed of his personal belongings and murdered afterwards.

Two suspects aged between the ages of 20 and 23-years-old appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court.

The court appearance follows after the two suspects were arrested and is facing a charge of murder which occurred on February 7, at Hlalanikahle Extension 3 in Vosman.

The appearance on February 14, of the two emanates from an incident whereby the 42-year-old Mr Jabu Mathibela was robbed of his personal belongings and murdered afterwards.

His body, which had multiple stab wounds was then dumped inside a bridge hole by the suspects and was later discovered by his family.

Police were notified about the incident and a case was opened to that effect.

Through their investigation, police managed to establish that the two suspects were somehow fingered in the robbery and murder of Mathibela; for this reason they were pursued by SAPS members.

Further on an operation was conducted by the residents from Vosman and immediately made a breakthrough when they arrested the two suspects.

The suspects were cuffed in the early hours of Thursday, February 10 at their place of residence, not far from the crime scene where the body of Mathibela was discovered.

During the arrest, it is believed they were found in possession of some property that belonged to the victim.

Additionally SAPS seized an item which is the weapon allegedly used in the murder.

The astute members noticed some blood stains in some of the seized items and all confiscated items will form part of their investigation.

“I am praising the members for the sterling work done and further thanks to members of the public for their continuous support to police’s efforts of rooting out crime in the society,” Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS, Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela concluded.

The court case was postponed and the suspects will remain in custody until their next appearance.
