Methodist members invited to Covenant Service

Service will be held at Emalahleni Civic Centre and will begin at 09:00 with Covid-19 screening at 08:30.

In 1775, John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Movement introduced a Covenant Service as an important part of spiritual life in the Methodist Societies.

This renewal service was a time for the Methodists to gather annually in a time of worship and celebration, self-examination, reflection, and dedication, wholly giving up themselves and renewing covenant with God.

Repentance through confession and commitment was a key focus of the service, demanding humility from those willing to submit themselves to the dynamic words stated within the liturgy.

The Methodist Churches from the community of eMalahleni will be gathering on Sunday, January 30 for the Service of Renewal of their Covenant with God.

Service will be held at Emalahleni Civic Centre and will begin at 09:00 with Covid-19 screening at 08:30.

It will be Methodist members from different Methodist Churches around Emalahleni from Phola in Ogies, Thushanang  Ackerville, Lynville, Tasbet, Kwa-Guqa Extention, Klarinet, Hlalanikahle and all the surrounding suburbs of eMalahleni.

This year it will not only be a time of worship, but also a time of giving back to the community by Witbank Methodist Church. The church has encouraged all members as they come to church to bring sanitary towels/pads as part of their giving.

The church will identify schools in the communities to partner with this year for this sanitary towel drive and Sexual Reproduction Health Awareness Campaign. Members of the church will be distributing sanitary towels to girls in the communities, especially those who are unable to afford. The school will identify them and will also be giving Sexual Reproduction health talks to both girls and boys, as a way to bring awareness that menstruation is not a taboo and sin, it is natural and a sign of a healthy body.

“As the church we believe we must respond to the plight and social needs of our communities, especially issues of poverty, gender-based violence, drugs and substance abuse and sexual health,” said Reverend Phezile Koekoe.
