They coordinated their resources and went out looking for the suspects and spotted two vehicles moments later, a Toyota Etios with false registration number plates and a Volkswagen minibus with the alleged armed robbers.

Moments later a shootout between the suspects and police ensued whereby two suspects were shot and sustained some injuries.

They were arrested while the astute members recovered a firearm with ammunition from the injured suspects.

The injured suspects were taken to hospital for medical assistance, one of them was discharged from the hospital.

The second suspect is still recovering under police guard.

The rest of the suspects were detained and police further confiscated the two vehicles which will form part of the investigation.

The suspects appeared at the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court on January 11, facing charges of having unlicensed firearms, ammunition, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen vehicles as well as conspiracy to commit robbery.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has appreciated the excellent efforts displayed by the members who arrested the suspects and recovered a firearm with some ammunition as well as recovered the two suspected stolen vehicles.
