Teacher from Witbank High grabs national award

The event took place on August 27 in Delmas (Vizimfundo Primary School).

Many teachers are full of passion and excitement to teach, but not often do you hear about a teacher grabbing a National Teaching award. Chiraso Moyane is a teacher at Witbank High School and she has been teaching for the last five years. She was nominated by two other teachers from Witbank High School who had been persistent in wanting her to enter the awards for the past three years.

The accolades that Chiraso Moyane received.

This year Chiraso decided to enter the competition and it all worked out for her. The event took place on August 27 in Delmas (Vizimfundo Primary School).

Chiraso was asked if she expected to win, “Honestly speaking, my initial goal was not about winning. My intention was to be exposed as a young teacher with purpose, an inspiration to many, breaking the norm that teachers are lazy, unwelcoming, old without style, boring and never successful. Winning came as a bonus,” said Chiraso.

Chiraso spoke about the evening when she won the award.

“I knew it was never about me, but the next generation that will remember that there was a certain teacher whom served her teaching years differently; full of love and passion beyond human understanding,” continued Chiraso.

For other teachers to win the award, Chiraso gave a little bit of motivation for other teachers out there. Never have an entitlement mindset to any school, position etc.

“I’ve been here mentally”, always be willing to learn, grow and still create a legacy of beautiful memories with the children and working wholeheartedly,” continued Chiraso.

Last but not least Chiraso gave a word of advice to new teachers coming into the system.

“Be a servant in service. Be authentic, so faithful to the curriculum, serve without fail and     walk carrying boldness, ensuring that one child is changed for the better. Be a teacher by purpose,” said Chiraso.
