Appalling upsurge in business robberies

Many local business in Vosman targeted with robberies.

Business robberies have become a trend in eMalahleni in the past few weeks.

Police officials have seen an upsurge of business robbery cases being reported at various police stations around the city.

A man was left traumatised after three men pointed a firearm at him.

The man alleged that on the morning of December 2, three men approached him and demanded money and the other suspects forced the victim to open a safe where the cash was kept.

An undisclosed amount of cash was then taken and the suspects fled the scene. No arrest has been made in this regard however the police managed to recover one vehicle, two firearms and the money stolen.

In another incident, a generator valued at R150 000 was stolen at Cieli Blu Mining.

The official on duty who was on night duty was left tied up with his colleague in the guard room. It is alleged that eight unknown men ambushed them, locked them in the guard room and left them.

On December 5, four men walked into a butchery in Vosman and one pointed a firearm at the man in the store, took his car keys, bank cards and driver’s license and ran away. No arrests were made thus far.

This raises great concern for Captain Elizabeth Mkaudi, who is a communications officer at Vosman Police Station.

“Business owners should be more vigilant during this time of the year as many criminal activities occur and some might not be able to recover their losses,” said Captain Mkaudi.

Police in Vosman and Witbank request the community to assist with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact Detective Colonel Hellen Masomboka at 082 303 9938.
