Violence against women and children continues during 16 days of activism

The suspect appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on charges of sexual assault

The negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and children is a huge concern in eMalahleni for years now.

Although the campaign of the International 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children are focusing on the impact of this type of violence, the sad reality is that it still happens.

On December 3 another rape was reported to Witbank SAPS where the victim alleged that she was brutally raped in a bush near Old Coronation.

It is believed that the victim was on her way to see her grandmother that was not doing well after an illness.

It was further alleged that the victim was walking to her grandmother when an unknown man clothed in black overpowered her and dragged her to a nearby bush.

Further on the victim alleged that the suspect strangled her while he forced himself upon her.

Although she was screaming for help, the suspect succeeded in raping her.

In another incident that occurred on the same day, a suspect was arrested after he allegedly took naked photos of his daughter, which is a minor.

It is believed that the mother of the nine-year-old came upon photos of her private parts on her cell phone.

After confronting her daughter, she alleged that her father took photos of her.

Her mother went to Witbank Police Station to report the crime and an arrest followed the same day.

The suspect appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on charges of sexual assault.
