Witbank Dam is just about 85% full

According to the latest report from DWS, the average water levels in the listed dams recorded a further drop from last week’s 74.6% to 74.4% this week.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) encourages the public to use water wisely.

Despite some short Highveld thunderstorms, there has not been enough rain to keep the dam levels steady.

All the listed dams in the Nkangala District recorded drops in water volumes, with Witbank Dam dropping from 85.2% to 85.1%, Middelburg Dam from 78.1% 77.6%, Loskop Dam from 82.1% to 81.1%, and Rhenosterkop / Mkhombo Dam further dropping from 6.2% to 6.1%.

“In the water management areas (WMA), the Olifants dropped from 67.4% to 67.0%, and the Inkomati-Usuthu recorded a slight increase from 83.0% to 83.1%, mainly due to some dams recording improvements in water levels in the system,” said Mr Themba Khoza from DWS.

In the Gert Sibande District, Nooitgedacht and Jericho dams recorded some improvements, with Nooitgedacht increasing from 95.3% to 95.5% and Jericho increasing from 80.0% to 80.2%, respectively.
