This year the Alzu Tour de Farm mountain bike race was a special one as they celebrated their 10th year of hosting this amazing race.
On Saturday, November 6 not only did eMalahleni local cyclist come out in numbers to support this race, so did other cyclists from far and wide.
There were many cyclists ‒ over 1 500 entries that took part in the 70km, 40km or the 20km race.
Many of the elite cyclists took part in this race as the prize money was outstanding for the first place.
This year was a bit different as no spectators were allowed, so Alzu had a live feed on the day which people could watch from home.
In the 70km men’s race it was neck to neck and they were pushing one another along the route.
It was a tough race this year as the wind really played its part on certain parts of the track.
Phillip Buys took the win in a time of 02:00:18, followed closely by Pieter du Toit and Shaun-Nick Bester.
In the woman’s 70km race Danielle Strydom took the win ahead of Chantz du Chenne and Sam Sanders in third place.
