ANC clears the hurdle by far
The ANC remains at the helm of the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
On the local front, the African National Congress (ANC) won the most councillors in the local government elections but failed to get an absolute majority with 49.23% of the vote The Democratic Alliance (DA) lost their grip as the official opposition party and only secured 19.28% of the vote while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) clinched 19.78% of the votes.
The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) got 5.88% of the votes.
The ANC won 28 wards and the DA six.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will later today attend the announcement of the final results of the 2021 Local Government Elections.
