ANC activists’ tombstones unveiled

Mr Pat Mashiane and Mr Big Boy Shongwe also urged the members to unite and support each other.

The Executive Mayor of eMalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie thanked the families of the ANC activists during the unveiling of three tombstones in Ga-Nala.

Three tombstones belonging to Ignatius Mahloana who died in 2004, Daniel Masango who died in 2008 and Patrick Mthimunye who died in 2015 were unveiled.

The executive mayor said the three and many others in the area played their role in different capacities and contributed to the freedom that we share today.

She said it was not easy, but in the end, they managed to start with the project of unveiling.

She noted that the three was a start, as they have plans set to unveil other tombstones.

“We want to thank you for exercising patience, as we had promised to start with the project a long time ago. We want to thank the volunteers for fighting for the freedom that everyone now is enjoying. During the struggle, churches and traditional leaders were involved, and it is important we teach our young people about the struggle. Our youth need to be taught political education and respect. Our leaders before us taught us a lot, and we need to pass the baton to the young ones. We need to have programmes for our youth to lay the foundation.”

The executive mayor also thanked the Duster Maloka Foundation for sponsoring the tombstones unveiling remembrance, as it will help to renew and rebuild the ANC in the six regions.

The mayor urged members to unite and to bring unity and show love to each other. She also explained how the process of councillor candidates was nominated as a means to correct past mistakes.

She pointed that they need to join hands and be responsible to teach children humanity, love and respect for the good of the organisation.

Mr Pat Mashiane and Mr Big Boy Shongwe also urged the members to unite and support each other.
