Catholic men’s retreat bears results

The future is not easy for some men and we need to be prepared

Father Simon Shaku thanked all the men who attended a retreat at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church when leading the proceedings.

The closing of the year of St Joseph was held on Saturday, October 23 and indicted that the turnout was very positive under the very difficult conditions.

He was also impressed by men who are involved in the gardening near the priest’s house as well as in maintenance in the church.

He said it was important not to always work for money, but for a good cause of the parish showing that men of the church are responsible.

He pointed out that it means he was in good hands at the church and feel well protected.

“Men was the first to be created by God, not to be lonely. Pope Pius IX on December 8, 1870, (Quemadmodum Deus) the Sacred Congregation of Rites promulgated the following decree, which communicated the decision of Pope Pius IX to declare St Joseph Patron of the Universal Church, and which also raised St Joseph’s feast of March 19 to the rank of double of the first class. This was done to help remember and realize the good deeds of Joseph and least we forget about him. Pope Francis urges us to look up to St Joseph, not the sodality only and we have learned a lot from him as men and about the challenges we face in our lives. Things are not the same as it was in the past and we are now living in different times. The reality is that some women have become powerhouse and some are very powerful while others are in leading positions which is not wrong and should be encouraged. The future is not easy for some men and we need to be prepared. Some of the challenges might be frictional and confrontational and we need to change our mindset to avoid that. We need each other and we need to discuss issues we face that affect us as men,” Father Shaku pointed out.

Father Shaku also said men must avoid the absent route from their homes which might lead to divorce; they must also avoid heavy drinking, abuse and loneliness.

He quoted from the bible that we all came from soil and in the soil we shall return when we die.

Some of the men of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church posed for a picture with Father Simon Shaku closing the year of St Joseph on Sunday, October 24; a retreat was held the previous day on Saturday, October 23.

He urged men to be intercessors, to have a support base and show the way and have a good heart and good qualities.

“The birth of a child signalled being a father, we need to support our women at all times, we must be a beloved father, a loving and a listening father, an accepting father, a father who invents and a working father and above all a father who brings happiness to his family,” concluded Father Shaku.
