Hlalanikahle girls inspired by women in their neighbourhood

The police officials also gave signs on how Gender-Based Violence can affect someone, and how to detect different forms of GBV

Child welfare organized a three-day empowering session for young girls around Phase 4 in Hlalanikahle.

The program was aimed at keeping girls away from trouble and danger as the schools were closed.

Social auxiliary workers requested stakeholders that they work with them to teach and inspire the young girls as they need guidance and inspiration, especially those who will need to choose career paths soon.  

Nolubabalo Mhlana, Zanele Skosana and Gugulethu Mathebula from Mother2Mother gave great insight on careers.

Witbank SAPS officials, Constable Nkosi and Sergeant Tshanadi with the girls.

SAPS Witbank policewomen, Constable Nkosi and Sergeant Tshanadi encouraged the girls to report any form of crime that they might witness.

The police officials also gave signs on how Gender-Based Violence can affect someone, and how to detect different forms of GBV.

On Thursday, October 7 the girls were surprised by Mrs Africa International, Jane Mabe.

Jane gave the girls some modeling skills and lady etiquette, which made the girls more excited.

High heel shoes that were donated were given to the girls to practice how to walk on them.

The girls were also pampered with make-up and a photo shoot session.

“I came here to encourage the girls to be comfortable in their skin and to help as well as support them with some of the issues they face as they reach their adolescent stage,” said Jane.

Thandi Riba, a social auxiliary worker at Child Welfare SA said that she was happy to see the girls get inspiration from women who are doing well in their community.

She also indicated that the girls usually come to get assistance with their homework at the centre in Hlalanikahle.
