‘Uber’ drivers warned against hijacking

'Uber' drivers are warned against hijackers

Witbank Police warns all ‘Uber’ drivers to be vigilant when transporting passengers with their vehicles.

This warning comes after an ‘Uber’ driver of eMalahleni was hijacked and his gold coloured Renault Kwid was taken by two suspects. The incident happened on the morning of September 28.

According to information gathered by the police, the driver was called to pick up two Indian males at the Total Garage in Gazel Street, Reyno Ridge.

The complainant picked them up and was told to drive them to their desired destination, which was Scott Street, Extension 8.

The one suspect on the passenger side allegedly pointed the complainant with a knife and demanded him to climb out of the vehicle.

The two suspects fled the scene leaving the complainant in total shock and dismay.

The Station Commander of Witbank Police Station, Brigadier Moses Bolton warns all ‘Uber’ drivers of the latest modus operandi of carjacking in the city.

Brigadier Bolton had the following preventative hints to ‘Uber’ drivers to prevent carjacking from taking place:

“Obey all demands by the hijackers. Do not offer resistance.”

Brigadier Bolton concluded by saying ‘Uber’ drivers can share information by calling the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or information via MYSAPSAPP.

All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
