Touch is a Move partnered with various organizations to donate food parcels and other necessities to community members

Touch is a Move partnered with Team Shikisha, Anglo American, television personalities plus MMC Cllr Mduduzi Nkosi and other officials to donate food parcels and other necessities to community members.

The team’s first stop was Phola in Ogies where they donated food parcels to the elderly, orphans and people in need. The visit took place on Thursday, September 9.

In Phola they also donated to an orphan boy who has started operating a spaza shop; he was boosted with a donation to uplift him to succeed in his business. The next stop was Matimba Village at Landau and they ended up at Spring Valley at the Thembalethu Community Day Care Centre.

Ms Anele Ngwenya from Anglo American Centre for Communication Impact said their visit centred on trying to change the behaviour of people to always wash their hands, wear their masks and adhere to the Covid-19 protocols. They also donated face masks and sanitizers.

Ms Evelyn Mtsweni of Thembalethu Community Day Care Centre said they render different services to the community of Spring Valley. They care for the elderly, orphans, sick, children and people who need other services. They also refer community members to relevant departments like home affairs and social development.

“Even though we have a lot of challenges, we try our best under very difficult conditions. Electricity is a big challenge in our area, crime, gender-based abuse and we are in need of other services. We always struggle with people who are sick during the night because we have to wait for an ambulance and it is not safe. Police do patrols and members of CPF also help and we appreciate that,” said Ms Mtsweni.

Television personality Zakhele Mabasa Mokoni ‘Sikhaleni’ of Isibaya said he was proud to be part of the programme celebrating Cllr Nkosi’s birthday month. He said the food parcels came at the right time for the families as many people were struggling due to Covid-19 and that such programmes should be supported.
