Open electrical box safety concern for children

Danger of the open electrical box brings worry to principal at Laerskool Panorama

The traffic light in Gordon Street at Laerskool Panorama has not been working for years now and the principal’s pleas to have it fixed are falling on deaf ears. To add more frustration, besides the traffic lights not working, the Emalahleni Local Municipality went to the school and opened up an electrical box. Since then the electrical box has been left open and there are still live wires running through, and now the main concern for the principal is the danger of the open box.

“The traffic lights have never worked, but I have been on the council’s case to get them fixed. Now the open electrical box is a big concern as the children walk past there every day,” said Mr Paul Burger, principal of the school.

According to Mr Burger he contacted the municipality on Monday, September 6 and it will cost an estimated R80 000 to fix the traffic lights and the open electrical box.

This problem was raised to the municipality, but by the time the newspaper went to print, no comment was received from the municipality.
