Every chess master was once a beginner

The academy also aims to create confidence in taking responsibility in chess players.

The Emalahleni Chess Academy hosted a chess tournament recently.

Players in three different sections played during the tournament held at the Lynnville Hall on Saturday, September 4.

There were only two sections under which the tournament was held: Section A for the rating 1 500 and above and open and Section B for the under 17 and rating 1 499. Medals were presented to the winners at the end of the tournament.

Fortune Macassa, the president of the Emalahleni Chess Academy said the academy is a non-profit locally-based organisation aiming to promote chess playing at the grassroots level, to organise and coordinate chess tournaments, to produce competitive chess players, to give learners the opportunity to be occupied in chess playing and not to be involved in unlawful street activities like drugs and alcohol abuse.

The academy also aims to create confidence in taking responsibility in chess players.

For more information, Macassa can be reached at 082 639 1624.
