Your weekends weren’t made for housework, rather get out and clean-up your neighbourhood

Residents could be seen cleaning along the stretch of Mandela Road towards Witbank Dam.

Have you ever noticed how littered Mandela Road is towards Witbank Dam and along the nature reserve fence?

Many people use that road to train for fitness purposes.

One resident from eMalahleni was totally shocked when she noticed a bird-eating plastic.

When she had a closer look at how littered the fence actually was, the litter had blown into the nature reserve.

On Saturday, July 24 a small group of people from the community got together and started the clean up out of their own pockets ‒ Michaela Longueira, Skye Renda, Michelle Meyer from Witbank K9 Club & Doggy Daycare and Dean Traill.

The group picked up all the papers, glass bottles and other litter that was scattered all over the place.

One of the main concerning items that this small group picked up was masks.

Everyone has to wear a mask now, so please dispose of the masks correctly as we are currently in a pandemic with Covid-19.

“Just a few hours of hard work and a little effort and a huge difference could be seen as you travel down the road,” Michaela told WITBANK NEWS.

Even Maison Traill (2) who was the youngest cleanup member learnt about litter that morning and he threw away rubbish.

Let’s make a difference in keeping the road towards the nature reserve clean as the animals in the wildlife do not know the difference when they eat plastic.
