Nersa has approved the guideline increase of 14.59% for municipalities.

The new tariffs were implemented on July 1.

The municipality has also embarked on a load reduction program in low-paying wards which intends to maintain the demand against contractual maximum demand from Eskom to avoid overloading and tripping of electricity as well as attracting punitive charges from Eskom.

Mr Lebo Mofokeng said, “The new tariffs were implemented and consumers will see the increased tariffs on their municipal accounts.”
