Man killed, minor appears in court after hijacking in Jackaroo Park

A man was killed in a hijacking on July 13.

A minor will appear in Witbank Magistrate’s Court this morning after a hijacking wherein a man was killed.

The suspect will appear on charges of murder, car hijacking and the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The boy was caught by community members on Tuesday, July 13 shortly after he together with his accomplices crashed into a wall in Annie Road, Riverview with a stolen Renault Sandero.

The suspects did not realise that the street is a cul-de-sac. Provincial police spokesperson Brig Leonard Hlathi said the driver, who was not yet formally identified, was driving in Jackaroo Park when he was hijacked.

“A man who witnessed the hijacking chased after the four suspects,” Brig Hlathi said.

According to an eyewitness, they reversed all the way into Annie Road and when they wanted to turn, the driver lost control and crashed into a wall.

Three of the suspects fled on foot.

Anyone with information on the remaining three suspects is requested to phone Crime stop on 0860010111 or send a sms to 32211.
