Emergency plan meeting held between police and other role players in the community

Witbank Police station commander Brigadier Sifiso Cele however reminded all parties involved not to take the law into their own hands

An emergency meeting was held to discuss the way forward in preventing any plans of looting, burning businesses or infrastructure in eMalahleni and surrounding areas.

The meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon, July 14 at La Bendicion where various role-players within the community gathered.

Witbank Police station commander Brigadier Sifiso Cele firstly thanked the taxi association for taking the initiative to help in keeping businesses and residents safe.

He also thanked all the other role players for taking hands with the police in preventing acts of crime.

He however reminded all parties involved not to take the law into their own hands.

“For the next couple of days, members of SAPS will be patrolling the city 24-hours a day, to make sure no looting occurs,” said Brig Cele.

Witbank Police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall told the various groups of people gathered at the meeting to also help the police by stopping people from spreading fake news.

“We can’t afford to be sending out police vehicles chasing fake reports as there are other crimes we also have to attend to,” said Capt Hall.
