Move to the rhythm of the bootcamp’s beat

Guest coaches were invited to demonstrate new exercising techniques.

Most people spent their Youth Day indoors last year because of Covid-19; this was a narrative people wanted to change.

The participants came out in numbers to keep fit and to celebrate the public holiday safely.

Gym lovers in Phola came out in numbers to exercise and keep fit on the morning of June 16.

This initiative was led by coach Mokgadi and Bakie Kubeka, owners of Shandukani Wellness.

The aim of the whole event was not only to keep fit but to also make up for sitting indoors last year on this day. Young people, mostly teenagers, came out in numbers to keep fit.

This was also encouraging to the older participants, as they got to spend their morning in a good way.

There were guest coaches and instructors that demonstrated new and fun exercises that could be practised at home. Among many, Khaya Makwetu, Ciwe Makama, Miekie Menzy, Zama Ntuli and Simphiwe Kubhayi were the most active instructors.

The attendees came prepared and ready to exercise; most had brought a bottle of water and a towel with them.

Mokgadi Kubeka, one of the coaches and event organisers, said she was pleased by the numbers of people who attended. “We aim to help the community with workouts to regain their confidence,” Bakie Kubeka added.

The coaches taught exercises that support the core, balance, building muscles and weight loss. More boot camps will be organised for the communities and donations will be distributed soon.
