Members from the Khulasande Post Rehabilitation Programme (KPRP) have teamed with the youth of eMalahleni to celebrate Youth Day, June 16 by doing an awareness campaign walk. The walk started at Lynnville Park to Ackerville and Thushanang; they were walking with a #DRUG-FREE EMALAHLENI banner.

According to these young stars, the purpose of the walk was about educating people about drugs especially the youth and, again it is about prevention, early intervention as well as getting help for those who are suffering from this toxic substance because as the youth of eMalahleni they are tired of seeing their peers, brothers, and sisters being the victims of these tragic drugs, especially nyaope therefore they wanted to teach people about the dangers of drugs and they hope that this walk is going to be vital to every one.

Statistics prove that eMalahleni is one of the places mentioned amongst the top classified places that are swimming in the dirty pool of substance abuse, and that’s the reason why Charmaine Lamula has started this program. In the proceedings of the walk, Charmaine told WITBANK NEWS that it’s sad to see today’s youth being looted in drugs when the youth of 1976 have died for today’s youth to have better lives and education, not to be the victims of drugs. She added that they will strive to regain the dignity of the 1976 youth and ensure that they clean all the drugs in eMalahleni, because these illegal toxic substances are destroying future leaders.

“We want to encourage the youth to start fighting these drugs that are taking over eMalahleni, because they are indeed exploiting the youth in their land of birth.”

These young stars said all they want is to see their brothers and sisters back on track, healthy and sober again, hence their theme says ‘drug-free eMalahleni’ some of the people who attended the walk stated that the major issue that contributes to these illegal substance abuses is the issue of unemployment because many people are sitting at home with qualifications because there are no jobs.

“Unemployment is killing them and turning them into lunatic people, therefore they see drugs as the only way of overcoming their stress of being unemployed,” Charmaine concluded.
