The Crime Imbizo has made people to tell their worrisome stories

People were pleased with this Crime Imbizo and they have pledged that they will work together with the police to fight crime

The Crime Imbizo Community Engagement led by the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe has made people to tell their stories.

The Imbizo took place on Saturday, June 12 at the Mthimunye Stadium in Ackerville. People came in large numbers to this event.

The event aimed at giving an ear, by the government to communities in an outreach program and in finding possible ways of dealing with criminal activities.

The event was held outdoor and Covid-19 regulations were observed.

The Imbizo was attended by representatives from the SAPS in Mpumalanga, led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Phahla, and other stakeholders like traditional leadership, the Community Police Forum (CPF), the Department of Correctional Services, Department of Health, the Moral Regeneration Movement, as well as Sanca.

The availability of the forces served as a great platform for people to state their grievances.

In the proceeding of the community Crime Imbizo, Mr Shongwe has promised people that he will do his utmost best to deal with the Team Shikisha gang the community says are threatening them.

It is alleged by the community members that this gang is using illegal guns, shooting in the streets, threatening people, and saying they will kill them.

An anonymous source told  WITBANK NEWS that not so long ago his sister was shot by the gang and he reported the matter to the police, but there were no actions taken in dealing with this case.

The MEC stated that he will come back soon to the municipality to discuss this tragic issue with the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Cllr Linah Malatjie so that they can come with a strategy to deal with this violent gang that is busy terrorizing eMalahleni.

In the closing of the Crime Imbizo, Cllr Malatjie thanked all the people who were able to attend and she further thanked other stakeholders like the Acting Head of Department of Community Safety, Godfrey Ntombela, SAPS team and the Department of Correctional Services.

Major General Phahla further encouraged the people to work with the police because it is important to strengthen the partnership, as it is the best way to deal with criminal activities.
