Young children left alone

Four young children were apparently left alone by their mother.

Four young children between the ages of three and seven years old were apparently left alone by their mother and were taken to an orphanage by caring neighbours.

According to Ms Sonto Nyembezi of Madress Orphanage in Pine Ridge the children from Siyanqoba were brought to her home on Friday, May 14 during the night.

The neighbours told her that the mother always leaves the children alone at home. “On inquiring from other neighbours, they confirmed that it is not the first time the children were left alone. The caring neighbours foresee danger considering the ages of the children. Even the elder children did mention that they’re always left alone by the mother. This is not acceptable, and we need to stop such behaviour from mothers,” said Nyembezi.

Apparently, the father of the children died. The mother of the children said she had gone to a funeral on Friday leaving the children alone, according to Nyembezi.

Nyembezi made contact with social workers so that the children can be kept in a place of safety.
