Women’s Rugby clinic was successful

Coach Devril Boucher from the Mpumalanga Rugby Union visited eMalahleni.

Rugby is a sport that is known to unite people and not just men, but women as well.

On Thursday, April 29 coach Devril Boucher from the Mpumalanga Rugby Union visited eMalahleni to host a Talent Identification and Elite Player Development Testing for women. Together with Witbank Rugby Club the clinic was held at Witbank High School; there were enough ladies to fill two complete teams. This is a very good sign for the future of Mpumalanga woman’s rugby.

Coach Devril took the girls through a few drills to learn the basics of rugby; running in a straight line, catching and passing and ball placement after being tackled. The girls were not afraid to show what they are made of and did every exercise to the best of their ability.

Zelda Freitag from Witbank Rugby Club who helped in making the clinic happen said: “Coach Devril is very passionate and energetic. He is highly respected and is driven to make rugby known to women. He showed again with this clinic why he is part of the development staff at Pumas rugby.”
