‘Let’s keep the streets clean like heaven’

Pastors from different churches along with their church members came with an idea of cleaning the city with the hope of creating a clean sparkling environment like the heaven itself.

“We are a proudly eMalahleni citizen; that’s why we will strive to keep our city clean,” says the people of different churches in eMalahleni.

On Saturday morning May 1, people from different churches have gathered at King Georges Park with the motive of cleaning the city. They started cleaning the park by picking up all the papers, bottles and plastics and later went to the streets.

Pastors from different churches along with their church members came with an idea of cleaning the city with the hope of creating a clean sparkling environment like the heaven itself.

The cleaning of the streets became a great opportunity to unite and work as a team. Mrs Charlotte Phatudi from the Christian Family Church says from now onwards people will think twice when they think of littering, because maintaining a clean environment benefits humans in the world.

“Our health depends on the clean atmosphere, that’s why we are out here today as different churches from different places, cleaning King Georges Park, because we believe that a park is a place where people relax and play with their loved ones. Therefore people can not be gathered in a dirty polluted area. People have to be in a clean place where there is fresh oxygen to breathe,” said Mrs Phatudi.

This initiative was not about recruiting church members, but it was the pure love that people of eMalahleni have for their city. Pastor Warren’s wife, pastor Mariette Graham says they love eMalahleni and that’s one of the big reasons why they are keeping it clean.

“We have a heart for our city, we love eMalahleni, and keeping King Georges Park clean is our priority. We want people to see and feel the beauty of this place. We want people to be free in a clean place, breathing fresh air and inhaling fresh oxygen. As different churches of eMalahleni we have a responsibility of keeping our place clean and we also want to make a change by creating a natural clean atmosphere,” she said.

Mariette further said as a church they love their city and its people. They believe in a team, that’s why they have engaged with other churches in creating a clean environment and that’s their way of giving back to the community.

King Georges Park was slowly turning into a hotspot for doing drugs, but these different church members came together and they fought that deadly, evil spirit. According to other community members it is believed that many people are being mugged and raped in that park.

“I would love to say every church in eMalahleni has a role to play in contributing to the community in ensuring the cleanliness of this city. Therefore it melts my heart to see people being united and working towards the same goal. It proves that there is still humanity and with God’s power we will manage to keep this city clean,” said Mariette.

Community members are urged to keep their place clean, especially during this tragic time of Covid-19, because this virus strikes better in dirty places. Pastor Warren from Christian Family Church says as a church they are willing to assist where they can and if people need help, they can contact their office at 072 563 9983 and make an appointment so that they can be accommodated.

He further told WITBANK NEWS that they encourage people that when they are calling, they must provide at least a brief of a background of what they want to be helped with and never stop believing in God.
