Coronation Secondary School, Kwa Guqa Primary School and Dunbar Primary School received the packs from The Wellness Centre@Kwa Guqa.

Three KwaGuqa schools received dignity packs from a wellness centre.

Coronation Secondary School, Kwa Guqa Primary School and Dunbar Primary School received the packs from The Wellness Centre@Kwa Guqa on Wednesday, April 21. In total 150 girl children learners benefitted, 50 learners from each school. The packs include sanitary towels together with toiletries.

The wellness centre is a Non-Profit Organization (NPO), founded by a social entrepreneur, Ms Silvia Nomusa Simela in 2016, and was registered with the Department of Social Development in January 2017.

According to Simela this organisation was founded after a need was identified in the community for an initiative that will address the current socio-economic challenges in the society.

After engaging with the community and conducting research, she came up with the concept of establishing a community wellness centre.

The organisation is also committed to uplifting communities for a better future, as well as helping organisations to help others in need, also to work with communities to help create mutual success.

“This organization was founded to have a community wellness centre developed in KwaGuqa extensions with the following objectives: To develop a facility that will be dedicated towards the promotion of healthy living as well as the prevention of illness; implement wellness programmes which will promote a culture of a positive lifestyle; to provide strategies and training programs related to health care through focusing on all the seven dimensions of wellness; to provide the community with resources they can utilize whilst seeking employment; to equip the community with the necessary skills and tools they will need to start cooperatives and businesses; provide the public with ITC skills as well as life orientation skills; conduct career exhibition for matriculants, as well as offer assistance with regard to tertiary application. They also render after school; Saturday and as well as holiday programs for learners,” said Ms Simela.

Programmes and services of the organisations will be achieved through the implementation of the seven dimensions of wellness which are: Physical wellness programs, emotional wellness programs, environmental wellness programs, financial wellness programs, intellectual wellness programs, occupational wellness programs and social wellness programs.

The principal of Coronation Secondary School Ms Sibongile Mahlangu-Xaba thanked the donors saying that it came at the right time because some learners’ parents cannot afford to buy them sanitary towels.

She added to say some learners are from informal settlement areas and is hopeful that the partnership will grow and last for a long time.

At Dunbar Primary School it was the same procedure as another group also received the dignity packs.

The principal of the school thanked the donors as well and urged them not to tire as the learners have many needs like school uniforms and school shoes. Saying that as a school they were grateful for the donation as a donation of this nature will go a long way in helping out the learners.

Rachael Hlabi (9) from Dunbar Primary School thanked the donors on behalf of the learners while Mathepelo Mswane of Coronation Secondary School did the same thing for her school.
