Vosman Police Station Commander calls on the community to refrain from solving problems with violence

“I strongly urge the community to be civil and professional in solving community problems to prevent the use of violence” said Lindani Ndlovu.

It is alleged that the warning of Brigadier Ndlovu to the community came after 30 reported cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm which started occurring from the first day of April until April 18.

It is believed that out of this 30 cases, 8 of them are domestic violence related.

Brigadier Ndlovu indicated that it cannot be that such an enormous number of cases reported in a short period of time where people were severely assaulted with dangerous objects, such as knives and bottles could be avoided, therefore he strongly warns the community to refrain from using violence as the solution and that has to stop because it put people’s lives in danger.

“It is vividly indicative that we are living in a society which is controlled by violent egos instead of peace. In some of these cases, liquor influenced the situation which points out to the fact that there are individuals who cannot control themselves after they have consumed alcohol. What left my mind boggling is one case where a young man who was under the influence of alcohol, assaulted his own mother, therefore this means that if a person abuses alcohol he/she might do something that would subject you to regrets,” said Brigadier Ndlovu.

He further mentioned that he is elated that 38 suspects have been arrested so far for these assaults and they have also made their appearance before Witbank Magistrate’s Court and their cases have been remanded to different dates.

“I therefore urge the community to seek and sort for professional help from opinion leaders such as pastors, parents, councilors or even friends than to engage into violent actions which at the end of the day would leave you in trouble,” said Brigadier Ndlovu.

Community members are advised to report any wrong activities which are happening around them and report them to 08 600 10111 or call Captain Elizabeth Mkaudi at 079 891 4842.
