Klipfontein Dam gets a little TLC
Klipfontein was given a little tender love and care.
Following an article two weeks ago, the Community Policing Forum in Ward 33 rolled up their sleeves and gave Klipfontein Dam a little tender, love, and care.
Mr Moritz Petzold, who lives close by the popular hangout said people partying in the park next to the dam, is a nuisance.
Klipfontein Dam has been closed because there is no water in the ablution blocks. A broken pipe is the cause of the situation and the municipality is aware of the problem.
A former councillor, Ms Naritha Naidu reported the broken pipe to the municipality in March already.
“Thousands of litres of purified water are being wasted because of a burst pipe at the Klipfontein Dam. I am certain that it’s been like that for a long time because if you have a look at the grass around, you can see it is super green. It’s one of the reasons as to why the municipality is refusing to open the dam and would rather have the people mess around at the Klipfontein Park,” she said.
After a trip to town, Petzold popped into the dam to find out why it is being kept locked after the Covid-19 restrictions eased.
He noticed that the water pipe was still not fixed and decided to fix it himself.
He searched for a valve to close the water, but could not find one. He then twisted the pipe and tightened it with wire to stop the leak.
After days of checking up on the pipe and realising that the municipality was not in a hurry to fix the pipe, he gathered some resources and the team fixed the problem.
The toilets were cleaned, broken taps fixed, grass cut, and the water pipe that caused all the headaches was extended over the river.
“The reason for lifting the pipe across the water is that rubbish from upstream used to pile up against the pipe causing the breakages,” Petzold said.
