One bottle too much for suspected robbers as they got busted by police

Moments after the suspected robbers fled the scene they were tracked down and stopped by Witbank Police members

Witbank Police and Witbank Crime Intelligence arrested three suspected armed robbers after hitting a local liquor store in the Central Business District (CBD).

On March 25 the armed robbery occurred in Plumer Street where two armed suspects entered the liquor store just before closing time.

As the robbers entered the store they immediately walked towards the cashiers and one of the suspects softly asked the cashier to open the till and give him the money.

“For a moment I hesitated, but then he lifted his jacket and I saw the firearm. That was when I just gave over and gave them what they came for,” the traumatized cashier said.

It is further alleged that the second suspect handed over a duffle bag with a firearm inside it and said to the other cashier to clean out the till and put all the cash into the bag, he was afraid and did as told.

“They did not harm us, but they were pushy as they just wanted the cash so they could flee,” the cashier added.

Moments after the suspected robbers fled the scene they were tracked down and stopped by Witbank Police members.

They searched the men and found the firearms and an undisclosed amount of cash in the possession of three suspects.

The men were arrested and taken to the police station.

The acting station commander Brigadier Sara Mthombeni complimented the Witbank SAPS and Crime Intelligence with their speedy and successful arrests. “All criminals are yet again warned that Witbank SAPS will not allow that eMalahleni will be ruled by thugs. We will keep on fighting crime, so we can secure our residents and the community we serve,” Mthombeni concluded.
