Musawenkosi has an artistic outlook

Most of the artworks speak for themselves ‒ he has a piece showing the World Trade plane attacks in the USA on September 11, 2001

Self-artist Musawenkosi Mahlalela (55) has dreams and wants to be recognised not only in the country but internationally as one of the best.

He was born in Mpuzini and only came to eMalahleni in 1995 where he settled at Klarinet in 2017.

Musawenkosi started with art in 1993 and has never looked back, even though while at primary school he used to draw pictures of teams; his favourite team is Kaizer Chiefs.

He was inspired by a relative after seeing his wood sculptures.

“I started collecting wood while still at Mbuzini for my artworks. I started with a few pieces, and I was encouraged to continue. I specialise in wood, but I have recently tried my hands with cattle horns. I’m trying different shapes and designs. Furthermore, I do candleholders, bedside horn lamps and battery operated as well,” said Musawenkosi to the  WITBANK NEWS

The other piece is one of a former Chiefs player denying responsibility after allegations of impregnating a woman and another depicting the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Musawenkos said he also tried acting going as far as appearing at the Grahamstown Arts Festival with some local artist in a play titled ‘Uphi Ubaba’ by the late Bra Ray Ntuli.

He is presently busy teaching himself to play the organ.

He believes that if he can focus on his art, he can go very far and will get the recognition he believes he deserves.
