Ms Johanna Rossouw’s Honda Jazz was stolen during the murder. The alleged murderer crashed her car in Krugersdorp on Monday, February 1

The 36-year-old man suspected of brutally killing Ms Johanna Rossouw will appear in Witbank Magistrate Court today (Friday, February 5).

It is alleged that he is involved in the murder case where the 86-year-old Rossouw was robbed of her car and brutally killed in her home in Edenpark Retirement Village on Sunday, January 31.

A massive manhunt was launched and the investigating officer of Witbank Police Col One Thobejane was about to arrest him when he handed himself over at the Mondeor Police Station in Gauteng.

“The investigation revealed that her vehicle, a white Honda Jazz was stolen during the incident and fortunately the vehicle became a positive catalyst for the investigation as it was later recovered left abandoned in Krugersdorp on Monday, February 1,” said Brig Leonard Hlathi police spokesperson.

He said after finding the car, the police strongly believed that the man could also be around Gauteng.

This prompted them to intensify their search and whilst busy following positive leads on his whereabouts, their counterparts from Mendeor station informed them that the suspect that they were looking for, has handed himself over.

Brigadier Sifiso Cele the station commander of Witbank Police commended the investigating team under the leadership of Col Thobejane as well the role that the community and the media played to arrest the suspect in such a short space of time.

Cele said he hopes the family can find peace now knowing that the murderer is now removed from society and are behind bars.
