Police clamp down on drugs

As police approached the suspect, he started walking faster, but they managed to stop the man and searched him. He was found with drugs in his possession and was arrested. 

Witbank Police have made numerous drug-related arrests since the beginning of 2021, sending a firm message to the sellers and users of narcotics.

Over the past weekend, Witbank Police had great success after bagging many drug arrests.

On Saturday, January 9, SAPS spotted a vehicle in the Tasbet Park area.

The driver was acting suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle approaching him. They stopped and search the vehicle, whereupon they found different kinds of narcotics in his possession and in the vehicle he was driving.

On further inspection, it was found that the man had an expired asylum. He was arrested for possession of an illegal substance with the intent to sell and contriving of the immigrant act.

During the same weekend, there were more arrests made by SAPS for possession of illegal substances.

On the same day a few hours later a man was spotted walking in Botha Street in the Central Business District (CBD).

As police approached the suspect, he started walking faster, but they managed to stop the man and searched him. He was found with drugs in his possession and was arrested.

On Sunday, January 10 two more drug-related arrests were made.

In the first incident, police stopped and searched a man that was acting suspiciously in Duvha Park.

On searching for the man he was found with drugs to the street value of R300.

Later the day in Plumer Street police conducted a frisk search on a man that started running after spotting police patrolling.

The suspect had drugs to the street value of R500; he was arrested.

All the suspects appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, January 11 but all cases were postponed due to Covid-19.
