Mpumalanga premier admits guilt for not wearing a mask at funeral

To further demonstrate her remorse she has bought 1 000 masks that will be distributed in eMalahleni as part of public education and an awareness campaign to demonstrate the serious nature of Covid-19.

The premier of Mpumalanga Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane has deposited a statement of guilt at Vosman Police Station where she accepted the necessary fine for not wearing a mask.

This comes after social media and media reports revealing moments where she was walking around without a mask during the funeral of the late minister Jackson Mthembu that took place on Sunday, January 24 in eMalahleni. In a statement, the premier said,

“I have since reflected deeply on this momentarily lapse, which I regret profusely. I wish to take this opportunity once again to apologise to His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Deputy President of the Republic Mr David Mabuza, the Mthembu family, the people of Mpumalanga and the rest of the country. I should have known better as a public figure and more so attending a Covid-19 funeral.”

She said she has also written a letter to the president of the republic expressing her regret of the situation.

To further demonstrate her remorse she has bought 1 000 masks that will be distributed in eMalahleni as part of public education and an awareness campaign to demonstrate the serious nature of Covid-19.

She also expressed her condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones to the pandemic.

The premier also wishes those who are currently struggling with the virus a speedy recovery and have also taken a decision to go into isolation for a period of 14 days.
