The premier of Mpumalanga had to dash around for an explanation after she was seen without a mask at Mr Jackson Mthembu’s funeral.
The Minister was laid to rest in eMalahleni, where strict Covid-19 regulations applied.
The funeral took place on Sunday, January 24.
At the house and even in the church, specific employees were seen sanitizing everyone’s hands.
“Upon arrival at the cemetery and getting out of her car, premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane’s mask was somehow damaged and she was oblivious of that when it fell. She thought it was intact as it was the case throughout. The premier’s aides promptly sought a replacement mask which the premier utilized for the rest of the proceedings.
“She has extended her sincere apologies to the people of Mpumalanga and the country for that brief moment wherein her mask fell without her being aware or conscious of it,” reads a statement from the office of the premier.
The premier has emphasized the importance of adhering to the Covid-19 regulations and continues to urge the people of Mpumalanga to constantly wear masks, practice social distancing and sanitize or wash hands frequently.
