Dead baby found in a deep freezer in hospital

When the family returned to the hospital on December 14 to start funeral arrangements they were told to return the next day

Two nurses have been suspended from Witbank Hospital after a newborn baby was found in a deep freezer in the hospital.

The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Ms Sasekani Manzini visited Witbank Hospital on December 16 and said,” It is unacceptable that we can misplace a fetus and not be able to account for the whereabouts of the body. This matter must be fully investigated and consequence management must apply.”

The woman gave birth to a stillborn on December 11.

When the family returned to the hospital on December 14 to start funeral arrangements they were told to return the next day.

After a search, the family found the baby in the deep freezer.
