Men’s Indaba to transform the attitude of men

A Men’s Indaba was held at Witbank Correctional Centre to assist men to conduct thorough introspection and deal with the issues that affect them.

Mr Mhlambi Bheki was the captain of the ship on Friday, November 20, driving the programme and from time to time having to face challenging questions from men seeking answers.

“You are necessary!” guest speaker Pastor Zamisa Simon told the men. Men are critical to the fabric of the community,” he said

Pastor Simon spoke profoundly and deeply on many issues including, the void created by fathers who are absent in their children’s upbringing, differences in men raised by women alone, men who abuse women and the spiritual disposition of a man.

The common plights of men who were attending the event where: Women who deny fathers the opportunity to be part of their children’s lives, balancing the finances when the wife earns more than the husband and being recognized as the head of the household.

The platform was open for all the men to participate in assisting each other with amicable solutions. Men were advised to; address fatherlessness in the society, interrogate their backgrounds, not beat women up instead deal with their fears and assume responsibility.

“Communication between men and their partners needs to improve, some problems are caused by poor or lack of communication,” stated Mr Aaron Shoba who was also attending the event.

Mr Zamisa emphasised that men who beat women up need to acknowledge that there is some deficiency in their brains and once that is addressed, there won’t be gender-based violence any more.

Local Organising Committee member Mr Louis Mabena thanked the men who graced the event by being there and thanked the guest speaker for the knowledge he imparted on correctional officials, “You are leaving behind a changed breed of men, and we are forever grateful.”
