Sassa and NDA partnership in volunteers programme

Volunteers will also be empowered with correct information to guide and advise clients about Sassa services

South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) in a media release said they are in partnership with the National Development Agency (NDA) in Mpumalanga.

It has resulted in allowing unemployed youth to work on a volunteer programme aimed at training and provide entry-level ability to work.

The partnership brought about the recruitment of 220 volunteers across Mpumalanga province through the assistance of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to assist potential beneficiaries to apply for the R350 Social Relief of Distress Special Covid-19 grant.

This noble intervention is extended to those beneficiaries who do not have access to computers, laptops and also unable to use technology to register their applications.

They will further also assist in queue management in Sassa and SAPO pay-points or outlets, with a clear Sassa brand identification card or name tags.

Volunteers will also be empowered with correct information to guide and advise clients about Sassa services.

They will also distribute educational and promotional materials as a reference source on how to access SASSA services.

Volunteers most greatly assist in areas where SASSA is experiencing a high influx of clients conducting queue marshalling during the monthly payment cycle for the duration of the period in service.

They will ensure compliance with the Covid-19 precautionary health protocols and regulations by hand sanitisation, social distancing and wearing of masks constantly maintained.

The volunteer programme is an extension of the Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) to promote access to social assistance as an essential provision to combat poverty.
