Applicants still waiting for RDP houses since 2013

The members also said that they heard over the radio an announcement by the MEC of human settlement that houses were available hence they wanted answers from their councillor

Some community members from Ogies in Phola are alleging that they feel let down by their leaders.

The members mostly from Ward 30 said they registered their application for RDP houses in 2013, but when they check the housing list at the department of human settlement, their names do not appear.

They indicated that they were told to register at the community hall in Phola so that they must be put on the municipality data system.

They came with all the relevant documents needed to make such an application.

“We were surprised in October 2018 when some of the people we applied with on the same day received their houses, and we were left behind. We took action and visited the ward councillor to hand her a memorandum. She refused to sign it and referred us to the council speaker. We ended up at the department of human settlement where we were told that we do not appear on their systems; it came as a shock to us,” said one of the members.

The members also said that they heard over the radio an announcement by the MEC of human settlement that houses were available hence they wanted answers from their councillor.

The members added to say that they were told at the department of human settlement that it takes only seconds if one is registered via the different municipality systems.

They say that they have been sent from pillar to post when trying to find out about their registration at the municipal offices.
