A case contravening the disaster management act and one of disturbance of peace were opened against the homeowner.

Police members also opened a case of assault after they were allegedly assaulted by some of the partygoers.

This drama played off at Pine Ridge on October 4 at 04:00 when the police were called out to a complaint of disturbance of peace.

“The police found close to 100 people that were having a party with loud music playing and most of them allegedly was under the influence of alcohol,” said police spokesperson Capt Eddie Hall.

He said as the police tried to attend to the disturbance of peace some of the partygoers started throwing glass bottles at the members and locked the main gate with the members trapped inside.

The dogs inside the yard apparently also tried to bite the police.

The police acted on the situation by spraying pepper spray and a sergeant took his service pistol and shot one warning shot in the ground.

As the crowd started running away, a 21-year-old man was found shot in his left foot by the warning shot that was shot by the policeman.

The young man also opened a case of attempted murder.

The station commander of Witbank SAPS Brig Sifuso Cele warned the public to observe the lockdown level one regulations which clearly states that everyone should be at their place of residence as the curfew period is from midnight to 04:00 except for essential workers.

“The disturbance of peace is still a crime and will be enforced by the police,” Brig Cele said.

Investigations are continuing.
